Amy's Surgery

After being told that Amy's surgery would take "several" hours, it was a surprise that 30 - 40 min. later she was done.  The Dr. removed only part of the vitreous gel leaving the outside and taking out the center portion.  He removed scar tissue, cauterized those that bled from that procedure, lasered some weak looking vessels, put a gas bubble behind the retina to stablize it, and put saline solution in to replace the gel he removed.  She will not be able to see out of that eye until the gas bubble is absorbed - a week or two.

She goes to his office in the morning for drops and removal of the eye guard.  He will look at her left eye then to see how it is.  She will only need to wear the eye guard during sleep after that.  She will see the Dr. again a week later.

It is interesting that she was given 5 min. of sleep while they numbed the area.  She was awake after that and could "see" the instruments he used inside her eye, though her eyes were covered and she could not see what was around her.  It freaked her out at first, but then she was just interested in what she saw.

Her appetite is not there yet, but she wasn't feeling well earlier this week so that may be why.  Mike has taken off today and tomorrow, but plans to work in Kearney Fri. if possible.
