Temptation

The current state of the union engenders many temptations.  As responsible citizens we value being informed and making our voice heard in the public arena.  Indeed we do need to keep our eyes, ears and minds alert to evil being perpetrated on individuals and groups, and to stand for what is right.  That being said, we also need to stay sharp in our awareness of God's will and roll in the events of history worldwide.
How does one tell the difference between standing up against evil as God's emissary and usurping God's power?  How can we tell whether we are being infused with God's power to work against evil, or whether we are marching off in our own power?  Usually the result is the answer.
We can check our motivation for a clue.  Are we tempted to fight the fight for attention or glory? My experience is that what God wants me to do, I am scared to death to do.  When I relent my will to His, the outcome is beyond belief.  When I strike out on my own, I'm like mighty Casey at the Bat - struck out!
Sometimes our motivation is anger.  While God may use that energy for good, we need to beware the pitfalls of acting hastily blinded by that anger.  The same dangers come from acting in fear.  The difference is that fear usually paralyzes or saps the energy.
What is the bottom line?  God's will is going to be done either through us or in spite of us.  He has promised that the righteous will have the victory in the end.  We need to keep up the pursuit of righteousness, trusting that God will make it plain when He needs us to act on His behalf.  Our daily walk in the light may speak louder than our persuasive words, but if God calls us to speak out, we need to be ready and WILLING.
